HCA Notice: Christie Lake Conservation Area Closed July 29 Following Early Morning Fire
The Hamilton Conservation Authority states Christie Lake Conservation Area is closed today “following an early morning fire.”
“The fire heavily damaged the Lakeside Pavilion and Beach Pavilion 1, which houses the beach store and washroom facilities,” reads a statement on the HCA website. “Christie Lake Conservation Area is closed today to allow the fire investigation to proceed and to ensure public safety while the extent of the damage is assessed.”The Hamilton Fire Department data states the first units were dispatched at 7:12 a.m. this morning.
French Public Trustee (Viamonde) Candidate Pierre Gregory has Withdrawn from Race
The City of Hamilton’s Elections website states that French Public Trustee (Conseil scolaire Viamonde) candidate Pierre Gregory has WITHDRAWN his nomination.
Gregory is the incumbent Trustee representing our region on Conseil scolaire Viamonde.
This leaves Sonia Macaluso as the only registered candidate in the race. Nominations close on August 21, 2026.YMCA Camp Chippewa Closure Following Overnight Fire
The YMCA of Hamilton Burlington Brantford has says Camp Chippewa will remain closed for the remainder of this week due to the impacts of an overnight fire at the camp’s facilities within the Christie Lake Conservation Area.
Camp Chippewa is a day camp program.
Families will receive refunds for the affected camp days.

The Hamilton Police Service will hold a press briefing this afternoon regarding an overnight double homicide, according to an advisory on the HPS website.
At 4:05 a.m. this morning, Hamilton Police posted on X, “Hamilton Police are investigating an early morning shooting on Candlewood Drive that has resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The Homicide Unit has assumed carriage of the investigation.”
