Hamilton Design Review Panel to Discuss Gore Park Buildings Proposal on August 13, 2026 [First Publicly Released Renders]
Hamilton’s Design Review Panel will meet on Thursday, August 13, 2026 to discuss the 12-storey mixed-use building proposed for the former site of the Gore Buildings.
The meeting is scheduled to be begin at 1:30 p.m., and will be conducted by video conference. Members of the public wishing to observe can request access by email to drp@hamilton.ca
TPR detailed the application in late May.
The first publicly released renders are included in the Design Review package.

The Hamilton Conservation Authority has updated its closure notification for Christie Lake Conservation Area to include tomorrow, Thursday July 30, following an arson fire this morning that caused extensive damage to the Lakeside Pavilion and Beach Pavilion 1, which houses the beach store and washroom facilities.
The HCA is recommending people monitor its website for updates.

Statement from Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe on Christie Lake Arson Fire
Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe issued the following written statement at 2:08 p.m. regarding this morning’s arson at Christie Lake.
At approximately 7:11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday July 29, 2026) the Hamilton Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at Christie Lake Conservation Area, 1002 Highway #5. Upon arrival crews found the Beach Pavilion structure collapsed and still burning, and the Lakeside Pavilion structure partially collapsed, burning with visible flames. Firefighters quickly went to work and knocked down the visible flames. Crews then reported that there were clear sings that there had been an attempt to set a third structure, the Marine Pavilion on fire.
Firefighters continue to remain on the scene performing overhaul to ensure any hotspots in the collapsed structure are extinguished. No injuries have been reported. Current damage to all structures is estimated to be in the $4-5 million dollar range. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Hamilton Police.
No additional information will be provided.
HCA Notice: Christie Lake Conservation Area Closed July 29 Following Early Morning Fire
The Hamilton Conservation Authority states Christie Lake Conservation Area is closed today “following an early morning fire.”
“The fire heavily damaged the Lakeside Pavilion and Beach Pavilion 1, which houses the beach store and washroom facilities,” reads a statement on the HCA website. “Christie Lake Conservation Area is closed today to allow the fire investigation to proceed and to ensure public safety while the extent of the damage is assessed.”The Hamilton Fire Department data states the first units were dispatched at 7:12 a.m. this morning.
UPDATE: Hamilton Police state this morning’s fire at Christie Lake Conservation Area was “deliberately set” and is now being investigated as an arson.UPDATE #2: The HCA now states the Conservation Area will also be closed on Thursday, July 30.
French Public Trustee (Viamonde) Candidate Pierre Gregory has Withdrawn from Race
The City of Hamilton’s Elections website states that French Public Trustee (Conseil scolaire Viamonde) candidate Pierre Gregory has WITHDRAWN his nomination.
Gregory is the incumbent Trustee representing our region on Conseil scolaire Viamonde.
This leaves Sonia Macaluso as the only registered candidate in the race. Nominations close on August 21, 2026.YMCA Camp Chippewa Closure Following Overnight Fire
The YMCA of Hamilton Burlington Brantford has says Camp Chippewa will remain closed for the remainder of this week due to the impacts of an overnight fire at the camp’s facilities within the Christie Lake Conservation Area.
Camp Chippewa is a day camp program.
Families will receive refunds for the affected camp days.

The Hamilton Police Service will hold a press briefing this afternoon regarding an overnight double homicide, according to an advisory on the HPS website.
At 4:05 a.m. this morning, Hamilton Police posted on X, “Hamilton Police are investigating an early morning shooting on Candlewood Drive that has resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The Homicide Unit has assumed carriage of the investigation.”
