Collins-Green-Farr Team Up to Fund 10 CityHousing Youth Pre-Apprenticeships Fixing Homes

UPDATE: the motion was approved by Council.
A walk-on motion by Ward 5 Councillor Chad Collins, Ward 3 Councillor Matthew Green, and Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr will see each use $17,500 in area rating funds to support the hiring of 10 youth from CityHousing units or on social assistance by The Threshold School of Building for a pre-apprenticeship program renovating 24 social housing units.
The program hopes to assist the youth in securing full apprenticeships following the program .
The Hamilton Community Foundation is already committed to $35,000 for the program.
The motion will be voted on at Friday’s Council meeting. Since they are using “their” area-rating funds, the vote is a formality.
