The Hamilton Public Library will hold an open house opening for the new Children’s area at the Downtown Central Library this Saturday, August 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“Visit the newly renovated Children’s area at Central Library and join the party. Enjoy musical performances by the LONE Rhubarbarian, activity stations including pictures with a giant inflatable Scout, a Scout puppet craft, bubbles, and, of course, roam and check out items from the collections,” reads the HPL event advertisement.

The Children’s area moved to the second floor due to repeated adult “disruptions” in its previous first-floor space.

From a Government of Ontario Advisory:

“Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will be joined by Wayne Long, Secretary of State, and Andrea Horwath, Mayor of Hamilton to provide remarks and hold a media availability.”

The scheduled time is 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26.

The Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre (HARRC) issued the following public statement, described as a “community alert”, at 12:28 p.m. today.

The Hamilton Anti-Racism Resource Centre (HARRC) is aware of ongoing efforts by the Dominion Society to secure a venue in the Hamilton area for a conference planned for August 29, 2026.

HARRC is asking venue owners, hospitality businesses, community facilities, and small businesses to review their bookings and inquiries for August 29 and to exercise due diligence when assessing last minute or unusual booking requests.

We understand that organizers may present a booking inquiry as a corporate meeting or business event, including under the name Ridgeway Media. Businesses that have received an inquiry under this name or accepted a booking without being aware of the organizers’ identity or intended purpose are encouraged to carefully review the booking details.

Venues should be attentive to situations involving changes to the event description, unusual requests regarding privacy or security, changes in the expected number or type
of attendees, or discrepancies between the original booking information and the proposed event. We urge venues to explicitly ask if the event is associated with the DomCon Conference.

We can provide information and assistance to help businesses assess the situation and determine appropriate next steps.

The intention is to ensure that venue operators have accurate information about who is making a booking and the purpose of the event they are being asked to host.
