    According to reports, citing the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, the current Council may be forced to remain in office.

    And none of the current Council wants the job.

  • Winnipeg Free Press Editorial on Dealing with Municipal Councillors Facing Criminal Charges

    Winnipeg City Councillor Russ Wyatt is facing numerous serious criminal charges involving allegations of sexual assault, administering a noxious thing, and drug possession.

    He has been removed from all discretionary committees by Winnipeg Council. He is refusing to take a leave of absence.

    The Province of Manitoba is now considering legislative changes to temporarily relieve municipal politicians charged with criminal offences.

    On Monday, the Winnipeg Free Press devoted an editorial to the complexities of the presumption of evidence balanced against the need for public confidence in elected officials.
