City Hall
This is a City Council “off week,” which means no City Council meetings today.
CityHousing Hamilton Board, 10 a.m.
CityHousing’s Board will hold its first meeting since February.
Fraud: A report details how CityHousing made multiple major mistakes, resulting in the City agency wiring $552,000 to a fraudster. The report reveals CityHousing was given specific warnings about the fraud risk, failed to heed the warnings, and then sent the incorrect payment to the fraudster.

Construction and Repair: CityHousing has achieved its goal of a maximum 2.0 percent vacancy rate. The rate dropped to 1.82 percent in March – a significant achievement because CHH’s vacancy rate peaked at over 9 percent in early 2023. Shortly after taking office, this Council gave CHH special funding to address a repair backlog and to fix 476 vacant units.

The agenda also includes first-quarter progress updates, which state CHH is achieving its strategic goals.

Ontario Land Tribunal
1400 South Service Road (Stoney Creek), 10 a.m.
A nine-day Ontario Land Tribunal hearing begins today with opening submission and overview of facts.
The OLT will release the evidence and submission packages to the public on Wednesday; the agreed statement of facts and outstanding issues are unavailable.
When they filed their non-decision appeal, Losani Homes sought rezoning to permit the construction of two 16-storey and two eight-storey residential buildings with 986 residential units. The 7.2-hectare site plan also included a three-storey office building and commercial one-storey buildings.
The City has designated the land for employment uses, and rezoning requires converting it from this designation. In May 2022, City Council deferred the application to negotiate further. The non-decision appeal was filed in 2023.
Dave Aston, a registered professional planner with MHBC, will provide the overview of facts during the morning session. Aston will return to the ‘stand’ on Friday to provide evidence on behalf of the developer.
Eldon Theodore, a RPP with MHBC who specializes in urban design and sustainability, will be on the stand in the afternoon to provide evidence on behalf of the developer and will be cross-examinated following his submission.
