The City of Hamilton’s property standards bylaw officers have issued an order to the City of Hamilton’s social housing division, CityHousing Hamilton, to immediately address safety concerns with balconies at 801 Upper Gage Avenue.

In an order dated May 21, 2026, which was publicly disclosed on August 5, City inspectors state the exterior balconies of the 11-storey seniors social housing building require immediate repair to “be free of holes, cracks, and other defects which may constitute a possible safety hazard.”

In the August 5 disclosure, as part of the agenda for the August 12, 2026, Property Standards Committee meeting, the City states an agreement has been reached between property standards staff and CityHousing staff. The terms of the agreement are not included in the agenda.
