A 54-year-old man waiting at one of Hamilton’s busiest bus stops suffered serious, life-altering injuries Thursday at approximately 4:30 p.m. after the driver of a Ford Edge SUV lost control and crashed into the shelter at King Street West and Dundurn.
Police say the SUV was exiting the Tim Hortons Plaza parking lot onto King Street when it lost control.
The bus stop is one of Hamilton’s busiest, with HSR routes to McMaster University, Ancaster, and Dundas all stopping there. Additionally, it is the busiest non-terminal GO bus pick-up location in Hamilton, and is also a stop for Flixbus.
The colliding SUV struck the 54-year-old man who was inside the shelter. Hamilton Paramedic Commander Dave Thompson stated the man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and that a second person, a woman, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. Many other people were treated on scene.
In a public statement issued late in the evening, Hamilton Police stated:

So she exited the plaza directly beside the bus stop and immediately lost control and just about killed a guy? Some people shouldn’t be allowed to drive.
