The City of Hamilton sold three of the eight properties listed for the May 25, 2026 tax sale.

Once again, there were no bidders for the former Waterdown Gardens Supplies property at 1771 Highway 5 West in Flamborough. The property was used for illegal soil dumping, and is suspected to be contaminated as a result.

The minimum bid to purchase the property is $1,189,021.59. The amount continues to increase with each bi-annual tax sale due to growing tax arrears and outstanding fines. Anyone purchasing the site also assumes all liabilities for the illegally dumped soil.

1113 Highway 8, Flamborough

This rural Rockton property, which was used as a landscape business yard, sold for $621,000, nearly nine times the minimum bid of $72,084.09, and well above the assessed property value of $367,000.

The City only retains the minimum bid amount to cover tax arrears and related charges. The “excess funds” are paid directly to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to be claimed by the property’s former owner, mortgagees, or other lienholders.

40 Rosslyn Avenue North

The minimum bid was $90,214.05, the assessed value is $208,000, and the successful bidder paid $281,000 for this house in Ward 3 located closed to the planned Gage Park LRT stop.

60 Fullerton Avenue

Located near the CN Mainline crossing at Sherman Avenue North, the successful bidder paid $175,000 for the property which has an assessed value of $161,000. The minimum bid was $74,048.40.

The next City of Hamilton tax sale will be conducted in November.
