Hamilton’s municipal social housing provider says it continues to manage tenancy leases and rent calculations manually due to the City of Hamilton’s February cybersecurity failure.
“This has resulted in some slowdown in tenant placement.”
In an information report presented on October 29, CityHousing Hamilton CEO Adam Sweedland wrote CHH estimates 258 of its housing units are presently vacant, representing 3.62 percent of CHH’s units.
“Staff have a medium level of confidence in the data presented below and continue to work to achieve a high level of confidence.”
This term, City Council set a target of reaching a 2.00 percent vacancy rate.
In March 2023, $5.7-million was approved to address a repair backlog and fix 467 units with a goal of completing all repairs by the end of November 2024.
In September 2024, CHH stated 369 of the units had been fixed.
Sweedland’s October report states 404 are now repaired.
At the time, CHH’s vacancy rate was 8.00 percent.
