  • FBI Arrests Canadian Cybersecurity Expert Who Working on City of Hamilton Response

    10:58 a.m.

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Canadian cybersecurity executive Edward Dubrovsky on Thursday, October 8, in Philadelphia, and charged him with unspecified extortion charges.

Brian Krebs, one of the world’s leading cybersecurity journalists, has been reporting extensively on the story. Other reports note skepticism regarding the charges.

Dubrovsky’s work has included negotiating with ransomware hackers, and he has self-published books on the ethical implications of these negotiations.

The City of Hamilton has been using the services of the firm CYPFER to respond to its February 2024 cybersecurity failure. Dubrovsky, who was a Managing Director at the firm, lead the firm’s work with the City of Hamilton.

Neither CYPFER or the City of Hamilton have provided any comment.
