Good morning. It is the beginning of a busy week at City Hall. Here is a brief summary of today’s meetings and events.

Today at City Hall: City Council meets to hear public delegations regarding the 2026 budget. There are 30 delegates registered, many of whom will be asking Council to fund initiatives they believe are important to the vibrancy and health of Hamiltonians. Delegations begin at 3:00 p.m.

Other meetings are noted below.

9:30 a.m. Governance Sub-Committee

  • Councillors will vote on a motion to request senior City staff begin tracking workflows to determine why nearly every project and council direction assigned to senior staff is behind schedule. The motion does not direct senior staff to get existing projects onto schedule. Staff are being requested to complete this work before the Octobe election.
  • City staff will be asked to address ongoing and repeated privacy breaches involving delegate requests and letters to Council, the motion is to create policies to prevent breaches.

3:00 p.m. Development Industry Liaison Group

As noted in the opening, it is public budget delegations day. I’ll be in the public gallery this afternoon and plan to summarize today’s requests to Council.

Ontario Land Tribunal

10:00 a.m. 28 Oakley Court, Minor Variance Merit Hearing

The OLT will deal with the appeal of a minor variance application in Ancaster.

The owner of 28 Oakley Court, located in a sub-division off of Fiddler’s Green Road, not far from the Fortino’s plaza, applied to sever the large lot property into three separate parcels to construct three street townhouses in place of an existing single detached property.

City staff recommended approval of the variances, because it complies with the Provincial Planning Statement (PPS) and meets intensification requirements.

Hamilton Committee of Adjustment disagrees with the PPS’ requirement for intensification in all urban areas, arguing that Ancaster should be treated as an unique community within Hamilton.

The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. by video conference. It is not livestreamed.

Related: The CoA’s opposition to 28 Oakley Court is very similar to the reasons the CoA opposed a similar application at 40 Church Street. Coverage of the Church Street denial can be read here.
