The City of Hamilton plans to extend its vacant unit tax declaration deadline to May 30 because “approximately 13,500” have not yet filed a declaration.
There is no penalty this year for those who file beyond the original April 30 deadline.
The City says 92 percent of properties have filed declarations, with filings increasing to over 1500 per day during the final ten days of April.
The City expects that most of the outstanding properties will file declarations in May, decreasing the number of follow-ups the City will need to do.
City Council must formally approve the extension during its ratification meeting on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
