Queenston Traffic Circle Buildings to Open This Summer

CityHousing Hamilton expects to open two new buildings at the Queenston Traffic circle in “June or July.”

The city expropriated and demolished the City Motor Hotel in 2013. The rundown motel had long become an urban blight. Council transferred the property to CityHousing in 2017. Construction began on two buildings in 2021. At 55 Queenston Road, the six-storey building will have 40 units. At 1620 Main Street East, the six-storey building will have 42 units.

Vacancy Level Drops Below Two Percent, Repair Backlog Addressed

CityHousing’s vacancy rate is now 1.82 percent (130 units), down from a record high of over 9 percent in early 2023.

In March 2023, this term’s City Council’s approved $5.7-million to address a repair backlog and fix 476 vacant units.

CityHousing states the repairs are complete.

Council set a vacancy target of 2.0 percent. CHH reached the target in March.
