A Facebook ad scamming people to provide personal and credit card information Credit: Screencapture

Facebook will not remove a scam page that is phishing people’s credit card information using paid advertising claiming to sell year-long HSR PRESTO cards for three dollars.

As TPR reported on Wednesday, a scammer is using Facebook ads to fool people into giving their credit card information.

The scammer impersonates Hamilton’s public transit agency, the Hamilton Street Railway, by using photos of HSR buses and PRESTO cards.

Dozens of people reported the scam to Meta, Facebook’s parent company.

Meta’s response is, “We’ve taken a look and found that the page doesn’t go against our Community Standards.”

At the time of publication, the fraudster is not running ads, having spent their original advertising budget.
