Hamilton’s City Council is again struggling to have enough members attending meetings to start on time.
July 11 – Audit, Finance, and Administration Committee
Only four of eight councillors were on time for Thursday’s Council Audit, Finance, and Administration Committee meeting.
Ward 4 Clr Tammy Hwang and Ward 14 Clr Mike Spadafora were in the Council Chamber at the 9:30 a.m. start time. Ward 2 Clr Cameron Kroetsch and Ward 13 Clr Alex Wilson were on the video conference.
Not present were Ward 1 Clr Maureen Wilson, Ward 9 Clr Brad Clark, Ward 10 Clr Jeff Beattie, Ward 11 Clr Mark Tadeson.
Clark was caring for his wife, who was discharged from hospital this week and is being cared for at home with a severe medical condition. She was admitted to the intensive care unit during her hospitalization.
Maureen Wilson was in Montreal on a housing study trip organized by the Hamilton Community Foundation.
It is not known why Beattie and Tadeson did not arrive on time.
The meeting began nearly 19 minutes late, when Tadeson logged into the video conference. Beattie did not attend the meeting.
July 3 – Grants Sub-Committee
On July 3rd, Council’s Grants Sub-Committee failed to make quorum at the scheduled start time.
The YouTube video of the meeting shows that only one councillor, Ward 2 Clr Cameron Kroetsch, was present in the Council Chamber at 9:30 a.m.
A closer look at the City Clerk’s computer screen shows two people in the videoconference. The two people appear to be Ward 1 Clr Maureen Wilson and Ward 6 Clr Tom Jackson.
The meeting began approximately two minutes late.
