Link: On the Generative AI Bubble
The debate regarding two AI research data centres in Hamilton had dominated debate at Hamilton City Hall for the past two months.
As with all things, there were a broad range of viewpoints amongst those expressing opposition.
One of the concerns is that the economics of Generative AI hyperscale data centres (which is not what is proposed in Hamilton) has all the making of an economic bubble.
This op-ed piece on Persuasion is an excellent outline of the economics, the likelihood of a bubble, what the impacts of a bubble will be, and why governments (primarily the United States) need to act to stop the financial sector from continuing to be overleveraged in the sector.

A Government of Ontario statement says the provincial government is allocating $25-million for a new emergency department at Hamilton General Hospital that “will feature 8,500 square feet of additional emergency space to better serve the more than 50,000 visitors it receives every year.”
