Hamilton City Council has once again failed to make quorum.
Today’s Audit, Finance, and Administration Committee meeting was cancelled due to a lack of quorum with only four of the eight councillor on the committee in attendance.
Ward 9 Councillor Brad Clark, Ward 11 Clr Mark Tadeson, and Ward 13 Clr Alex Wilson attended the meeting in person. Ward 2 Clr Cameron Kroetsch joined by video conference.
Absent were Ward 1 Clr Maureen Wilson, Ward 4 Clr Tammy Hwang, Ward 10 Clr Jeff Beattie, and Ward 14 Clr Mike Spadafora.
The meeting was scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
Beattie arrived at 9:11 a.m.
Because the meeting involved a development charges appeal, and Council must meet the natural justice requirements of the Statutory Powers Procedure Act, councillors waited until they had more than bare quorum membership to begin.
At 9:14 a.m., Spadafora arrived.
The hearing began moments before 9:15 a.m.
Ongoing Quorum Issues
Quorum issues and cancelled meetings are becoming more common in 2025, despite a decrease in meetings this year.
Beginning in January this year, City Council decreased their meeting schedule by nearly 25 per cent. Under the new calendar, there are no council meetings during 18 weeks this year.
This includes a 32-day vacation block that begins in August and continues until the second week of September.
While nearly every workplace, organization, and schools return from summer the day after Labour Day, September 2nd, this year, the City of Hamilton will remain on summer shutdown until September 7.

Is there not any accountability? Unclear why this happens, they are paid to do this job..what would be the reasons for not attending?
In no other job would this be tolerated.
