Keanin Loomis says he is “supremely frustrated with what’s going on in the city” and will decide if he’ll run for Mayor within the next year.
Loomis is a federally appointed Director on the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority. Today, he attended the port’s annual general meeting where TPR asked him if he plans to run for mayor.
Running for Mayor “is not a decision that needs to be made right now,” Loomis said. He said he gets asked the question often, and it’s something he is thinking about.
He is “overwhelmingly happy” in his current job as the President and CEO of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction.
Loomis placed a close second in Hamilton’s 2022 municipal election, less than one percent (1663 votes) behind the winner, Andrea Horwath.
Since that time, Loomis has remained involved in the community.
He spoke on AM900 CHML a few times when requested to comment on this Council’s decisions. Each time, he expressed disagreement focused on policy and operations, avoiding character attacks.
Nominations for the 2026 election will open on May 1, 2026. Election day is October 26.

I am soooooo sorry Mr Loomis didn’t make it to mayor on his first attempt. He’s a clear thinker, hard worker and successful in anything he does. This way of running Hamilton now with City Hall is driving it into the ground. Filth and crime and feces and people stoned out of their mind is everywhere and seemingly nothing but indifference from City authorities toward it. If Canada is going down the toilet as many profess these days (that’s why the big exodus) Hamilton is leading the way with probably London not far behind. This apathy of government and enabling of missions and social workers ( guaranteed a good paying job while this goes on) is simply speeding up the momentum to a city in total ruins. I would love to live here but the USA is calling me and I can hear all the guffaws of people who don’t realize that the States is where people are going and Canada is the place people are leaving.
Go for it Keanin, anything would be an improvement over our current mayor….
Finally, a bit of good news. I truly hope that Mr Loomis runs in the next Mayoral election. It would be a relief to have an adult in the room.
