The Hamilton Police Services Board will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, that includes closed-session discussions on hiring a deputy chief and succession planning for senior command.
The meeting agenda lists two closed-session items: “hiring a Deputy Chief” and a separate “discussion respecting succession planning of senior command.”
The board has been recruiting for a new deputy chief since the retirement of former Deputy Chief Paul Hamilton earlier this year.
The vacancy comes as Chief Frank Bergen has said he intends to retire in mid-2027. Bergen joined the Hamilton Police Service as deputy chief in 2018, following 36 years with the Toronto Police Service.
The open portion of next week’s meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube. The public session is expected to consist only of procedural motions to enter and exit closed session.
