Hamilton City Council meets today, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, for its regular ratification meeting (Meeting 26-010), starting at 9:30 a.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting comes one day after Council heard from AI data centre proponents and experts at a special education session called by Mayor Andrea Horwath.
Today’s headline vote: final ratification of an Interim Control Bylaw banning new AI data centre construction and expansion across Hamilton’s industrial zones for up to one year. If passed, the bylaw takes effect immediately.
I will be live posting throughout the meeting below:

Very low numbers for people protesting the data centre. I hope councillors see the big picture and that more people support data centre than not. This is important to Hamilton. Councillors who didn’t show up yesterday shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
There’s 250 pieces of written correspondence and a petition with 1000 signatures posted on the public agenda, almost all opposed to the data centre. Would have been nice to see proponents run their own email and signature campaign so we could the support on their side
