Ontario municipal election year councils voting down things they’d usually approve:
Rejected as too tall for London: a four-storey long term care facility. (Which will likely be approved by the OLT)
An Orillia councillor is challenging her Council and Integrity Commissioner at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario: claiming that the numerous investigations which determined she violated the local council code of conduct multiple times are discriminatory. Party Line Vote in Vancouver Rejects Sanction for Guilty Mayor Ken Sim: One of Canada’s most disgraceful and dishonest politicians benefited from a party-line vote that rejected an Integrity Commissioner’s recommendations after find Mayor Sim guilty of harassment related to the Mayor making false accusations against another member of Vancouver Council.
RCMP Investigation of Calgary City Hall: Allegations of Municipal Corruption, Obstruction of Justice, Fabrication of Evidence – Court documents state. Search warrants were executed at the homes of Calgary mayor Jyoti Gondek, former Councillor Sean Chu, and current Councillor Andre Chabot.
This Global News report states the investigation involves a rezoning application that was originally defeated in a 6-6 tie, but was reconsidered after Cllr. Chu moved for reconsideration, at which point it passed 8.5.
Sarnia Police Scandal Expands: The Chief of Police was already suspended during an ongoing workplace investigation. Now the Deputy Chief is suspended.
Chief Derek Davis withdrew his frivolous $1.5-million defamation suit against a journalist. This came shortly after Sarnia’s Police Board reversed its earlier decision to use public funds to pay the Chief’s legal costs.
Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati being Jim Diodati: Ignoring pleas from the Ontario Ombudsman, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati has implemented a $1000 fee to file complaints to Niagara Fall’s Integrity Commissioner. Diodati was full of his usual bluster in bragging about the change.
Councillor Blocked from Emailing Staff: In Ramara, a councillor is restricted to only communications with the CAO following a series of inappropriate communications which were substantiated by an Integrity Commissioner report.
