Ward 14 Hamilton City Council candidate Kojo Damptey has stepped off the Hamilton Public Library Board because he is seeking elected office and does not wish to create the appearance of conflict between his political candidacy and his role as a citizen volunteer on the apolitical Library Board.

Damptey was appointed to the Board in October 2023.

His resignation was effective at the end of the June 10 regular board meeting.

Damptey was one of two members to vote against implementing the Central Library access policy pilot. The other member voting against was Ward 2 Councillor Cameron Kroetsch.

The Library Board will hold a special meeting next Thursday, June 18, to determine whether the HPL will implement an access policy for entry into the Central Library.
