The City of Hamilton’s affordable housing agency, CityHousing Hamilton, is continuing to hold its vacancy rate below its past averages.

CHH CEO Adam Sweedland verbally told the board on Tuesday that the April 2026 vacancy rate sat at 2.22 per cent—above the agency’s target of 2.0 per cent. The organization first achieved this benchmark in March 2025, having successfully repaired hundreds of units during the preceding two years. At that time, the vacancy rate stood above 9.0 per cent.

However, Sweedland provided no details regarding current vacancy trends, and CHH did not make its April board meeting agenda package publicly available.
