Director of the Housing Secretariat Justin Lewis has left the City of Hamilton to become the Chief Executive Officer of Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services.
His departure comes as members of Hamilton City Council began to openly question the current housing services structure, which features two directors: Lewis and Director of Housing and Homelessness Michelle Baird.
The questioning began during the 2026 budget process in January, when Ward 6 Councillor Tom Jackson announced plans to bring a motion to review potential duplication between the two director roles.
Lewis announced his departure in mid-March. A few days later, at the March 25 Council General Issues Committee meeting, Jackson’s motion was introduced and unanimously approved.
