The City of Hamilton is displaying the Palestinian flag above its main entrance, for the first time ever. The City granted the flag raising following the Government of Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine on September 21, 2025. Hamilton’s Palestinian community requested to fly the flag on Palestine Land Day.
Ward 2 Councilllor Cameron Kroetsch, Ward 3 Councillor Nrinder Nann, and Ward 4 Councillor Tammy Hwang supported the request and assisted in arranging the raising of the flag.
The event drew some criticism due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, and the City of Hamilton’s decision to grant the request to occur on Palestine Land Day.
The flag was raised shortly after 12 noon on Monday.
Most City Hall flag raisings draw small crowds and are not announced in advance. This one was announced in advance and attended by approximately 100 people.
