It is another light agenda for Hamilton’s Board of Health with two routine information reports and presentations, and additionally the Board of Health will debate if they’ll voluntarily bind themselves to the City of Hamilton’s conduct of conduct for local boards.
Code of Conduct
Ontario’s Municipal Act explicitly exempts local boards of health from the requirement to maintain a code of conduct and to retain a person as integrity commissioner. The council members on the Board of Health remain bound by the Council Code of Conduct.
Hamilton’s Board of Health is scheduled to vote on if they will voluntarily submit to Council’s code of conduct for local board members. If they do, the citizen members on the Board can then seek the advice of Hamilton’s Integrity Commissioner on matters such as conflict of interest.
Staff Presentations: Emergency Prepareness
They will be a presentations outlying the emergency prepareness of the public health unit, and the role of the Public Health Emergency Control Group in responding to issues such as rabies in 2015 and opioids in 2018.
Hamilton’s public health unit plans to improve its prepareness by creating a “Health System Emergency Management Table” to coordinate Hamilton’s various health service providers to prepare for future events such as a sudden redeployment during pandemics or mass-vaccination events.
