TLDR: The City is still in the processing of hiring a new HSR Transit Director.

I had one question on my post-meeting list for the City Manager this week: a request for an update on the hiring process for a new HSR Transit Director.

The previous Director was hired by Mississauga in May.

Unfortunately, I had to leave City Hall before the meeting ended on Wednesday to deliver a guest talk to an evening class at McMaster University.

I emailed the question to the City Manager’s Office, which provided this response on behalf of General Manager of Public Works Jackie Kennedy:

We are actively recruiting for the Director of the City’s Transit Division.

Nancy Purser, who is acting in the position since May, brings a career of transit knowledge and experience, and is focused on continued improvement and service.

Safe and thriving neighbourhoods is a Term of Council Priority and the new director, with their City colleagues and partners, will collectively be dedicated to making sure people can move around safely and effectively no matter how they travel.

The next Director will need to oversee the complete transformation of all HSR bus routes, manage transit detours during planned LRT construction, have the bus system ready for LRT opening, and manage two garages with the Birch Avenue ‘bus barn’ scheduled to open in summer 2026.
