Rob Cooper quickly got to work Monday morning, following Friday’s certification of the Ward 8 by-election results.

Cooper took his oath of office this morning, with City Clerk Matthew Trennum officiating the swearing-in. City Manager Marnie Cluckie and Ward 8 Executive Assistant Nikola Wojewoda were witnesses.

Cooper has hired Wojewoda to continue as the Ward 8 EA, a role she held with former Councillor John-Paul Danko.

Cooper requested to take the oath of office at the earliest opportunity in order to get to work and participate in City Council meetings.

A ceremonial swearing-in will occur at the beginning of the October 8 City Council meeting.

Cooper will be attending today’s Public Works Committee meeting. He’ll formally be added to Council committees on October 8.

Cooper was elected to the Ward 8 seat in the Sept. 22 by-election, which was called after Danko was elected as the MP for Hamilton West—**[Should be em dash, not hyphen]**Ancaster—Dundas in the April federal election.

There wasn’t much time for pleasantries this morning. Immediately after taking the oath, Cooper was called away to get his laptop and other equipment set up before his first meetings of the day.
