The Ontario Land Tribunal will decide the fate of Hamilton City Council’s decision to not expand the urban boundary.

On June 25, City Council voted to deny urban boundary applications filed by various developers and landowners covering 1,209 hectares (2,988 acres) in the Upper Stoney Creek Elfrida region and, separately, approximately 364 hectares (899 acres) in the White Church Road area east of Upper James Street in Mount Hope.

As expected, each development group has filed appeals to the Ontario Land Tribunal to seek the OLT overturn Council’s decision and to expand the urban boundary.

The OLT has moved expeditiously to process both appeals, with first case management conference hearings already scheduled.

September 29: The first CMC for the Elfrida lands will be conducted. (Case number is OLT-25-000591.)

October 7: The first CMC for the White Church Road lands will be conducted. (Case number is OLT-25-000613.)

The City of Hamilton has uploaded the developer/landowner groups appeal filings onto the City website.

White Church Road lands: Notice of Appeal cover letter of four property owners, Notice of Appeal cover letter of three property owners.

Elfrida lands: Appeal cover letter
