As the the 2022-2026 Council term enters its final year, the first meeting of Council’s Expanding Housing and Support Services for Women, Non-Binary, and Transgender Community Sub-Committee for this term focused on how to finalize plans before the October 2026 election.

Ward 13 Councillor Alex Wilson was elected chair of the committee. Wilson uses he/him and they/them pronouns.

Ward 3 Councillor Nrinder Nann says the committee is focused on “where we are falling short from a gender-based analysis on the needs of women, non-binary and trans folks as it relates to the entire spectrum of housing,” adding she is “super excited about continuing this work … [to]continue to demonstrate progress in tangible ways, not only in terms of numbers of beds, but more importantly number of safe, dignified homes for women, non-binary and trans-led households.”

Today’s (August 14, 2025) meeting was primarily procedural.

The committee voted to have staff provide a report at its next meeting to provide a summary of the state of housing and homelessness supports and services for women, non-binary and trans folks in Hamilton and to include recommendations on how to improve supports and services.

The next meeting date is to be determined.
