A 15.24-metre-wide parcel of vacant land on Frederick Avenue that was set aside in 1906 to become a roadway will instead become an affordable housing site.
Anyone walking past would see it as a vacant piece of property and wonder why there is a gap where two houses should be. In fact, the land is “road allowance,” registered in 1906 to become part of what is today Edinburgh Avenue – a road that terminates one street east at Province Street North.
Hamilton City Council will approve “closing” the “road allowance” and then make the land available to an affordable housing provider as part of the City’s affordable housing strategy.
The 15.24-metre-wide road allowance at 75 & 83 Frederick Avenue was for a planned future street. Registered in the land registry in 1906, the land has been vacant for decades.
Council will formally approve the change on May 28.
