Mayor Andrea Horwath’s office states she is “currently recovering at home following surgery and treatment for multiple injuries” and will “participate in meetings and engagements virtually” for at least the next two weeks.
The Office of the Mayor issued a statement at 3:13 p.m. providing an update on the Mayor’s recovery.
Horwath was injured last Tuesday afternoon when she suffered a fall “on the stairs outside City Hall during extremely windy conditions.”
She was diagnosed with a broken wrist and “assessed for additional injuries including an elbow fracture and leg injury.”
Today’s statement expresses the Mayor’s appreciation for “the outpouring of support and well wishes from across the community.”
Other members of City Council are filling in for the Mayor at community events.
There have been no impacts on meetings or city operations.

HAMILTON, ON – Mayor Andrea Horwath is currently recovering at home following surgery and treatment for multiple injuries.
As her recovery progresses, she will not be attending in-person events over the next two weeks. However, where possible, she will continue to participate in meetings and engagements virtually.
Mayor Horwath and her office are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes from across the community.
We will continue to provide updates as needed and thank everyone for their understanding and support.
