Hamilton City Council’s Light Rail Transit Committee says Metrolinx needs to resume attending their meetings to provide updates, hear from council members, and be made aware of community concerns.
“It is important to have our biggest partner in this generational project here at the table, in the room, in order to give the confidence to our residents that when this LRT subcommittee engaged in our deliberations, they are being heard clearly,” stated Ward 3 Councillor Nrinder Nann.
Nann says the City needs Metrolinx at meetings to answer “our inquiries about where Metrolinx is at when it comes to X, Y, and Z.”
Nann’s motion to request Metrolinx to attend future meetings passed unanimously.
Metrolinx routinely added Hamilton’s LRT committee meetings between 2015 and 2019. The project was cancelled in late 2019, only to be revived in May 2021.

Thursday’s meeting revealed the limitations of meeting without Metrolinx present to answer questions. There were no updates on the main LRT project.
The agenda was limited to approving the City’s new street design and furniture standards for the Hamilton LRT corridor.
Project Status
In early November, the Province announced additional phasing for the project that is intended to avoid the problems Metrolinx is encouraging building the Eglinton LRT.
Requests for qualification were tendered for civil and utilities works. RFQ submissions closed on Wednesday.
In November, Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria stated that Metrolinx would reveal qualified bidders in April and announce the winning bidder in November or December.
