Hamilton City Council is dealing with an undisclosed and very urgent human resources matter.

On Wednesday, Council was asked by senior city staff to urgently move into closed session at 9:30 a.m. for an urgent update involving a “personal matter about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees.”

Moments later, because of the urgency of the matter, the public was asked to leave the council chamber.

Council received a “verbal update” during an eight-minute closed session.

As the public returned to the council chamber, General Manager of Healthy & Safe Communities Grace Mater, and the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Uzma Qureshi left the Council chamber today.

City Manager Marnie Cluckie is on vacation this week.

The City of Hamilton has not disclosed who the Acting City Manager is.

Of note, while all the other walk-on items for yesterday’s meeting were added to the agenda, this urgent matter was not.

  1. What are the city employees hiding from Hamiltonians now!!!! What happened to full disclosure??

  2. Sounds like something serious has happened so we’ll have to wait for council’s “transparency”.
