The Hamilton Police Service (HPS) is adding three staff, a constable, a civilian crime analyst, and a court clerk for its Offender Management Unit for three years, with the Province of Ontario funding the $1,193,408.51 cost.
In a report to the March 28 Hamilton Police Service Board meeting, the HPS states “in 2022, the Hamilton Police made 7,814 arrests where 62% (4,828 individuals) had release orders” and “in 2022, HPS found that 1 in 3 individuals charged with a violence offence were breaching judicial releases.”
The Offender Management Unit consisted of two constables, one crime analyst, and one court clerk.
