One hundred and eleven (111) new affordable rental apartments for seniors in Binbrook are nearing construction, with one administrative step remaining before the City of Hamilton can issue final permits. The Committee of Adjustment must formally approve new lot lines following a land transfer from the City to the Glanbrook Non-Profit Housing Corporation.
The City of Hamilton is providing 1.5 hectares of land to facilitate the new three-storey building at 2800 Library Lane.

The City lands are located between the Township of Glanbrook Non-Profit Housing Corporation’s existing 31-unit affordable seniors building at 2700 Library Lane and a grocery store. They are effectively landlocked.
In a submission to the Committee on behalf of the housing provider, planner Marko Maric of the firm SHS Inc. states the land reconfiguration is required to “satisfy funder and lender requirements.”
“The intention of Glanbrook to operate the entire site (e.g. 2800 Library Lane and the future 2750 Library Lane) as one functional site,” he writes. “In order to satisfy funder and lender requirements, Glanbrook NPH has concluded that their existing property (Library Lane) and the lands to be transferred by the City (the future 2750 Library Lane) cannot merge on-title.”
In November 2023, Hamilton City Council unanimously approved the project and provided a $1.7-million loan to the non-profit housing corporation to enable project planning to proceed without delay.
However, this project was one of the last City Council approvals before the Ontario Conservative government eliminated third-party appeals to the Ontario Land Tribunal.
A neighbouring homeowner appealed, writing:
“First and foremost, the intrinsic damage to our property value from the proposed rezoning is our greatest concern … we will loose [sic] all the enjoyment of our property outdoor space, which will be equally damaging to us.”
In August 2024, the OLT dismissed the appeal.
In the months since, Glanbrook Non-Profit Housing has worked to secure financing and advance to construction.
The Committee of Adjustment hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, at 9:50 a.m.
