Mayor Andrea Horwath’s office announced today the following three dates and locations for the 2026 Hamilton New Year’s Levees:

  • Thursday, January 15, at Hamilton City Hall between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.;
  • Friday, January 16, at Ancaster Old Town Hall between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.; and
  • Saturday, January 17, at Sackville Hill Seniors Recreation Centre between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m.

Municipal mayors’ levees are a Canadian tradition with roots in the 17th- and 18th-century New France colony, when the governor would greet citizens on New Year’s Day for the exchange of courtesies and good wishes.

Mayor Horwath expanded the number of levees in 2023 to include more locations for the events.

Levees are informal affairs. Hamiltonians are invited to attend, exchange greetings, and enjoy live entertainment.s. Hamiltonians are invited to attend, exchange greetings, and enjoy live entertainment.
