Only three of six Hamilton City Council members on the City’s Public Health Sub-Committee attended today’s scheduled 9:30 a.m. meeting.
Councillor Cameron Kroetsch and Clr Mark Tadeson both attended in person. Clr Alex Wilson logged in by video conference. Clrs Craig Cassar, Tammy Hwang, and Nrinder Nann did not attend.
Tadeson arrived late, saying a picket line at City Hall delayed him.
Cassar is on vacation in Finland. Hwang is attending a conference in Montreal, by personal choice.
Ongoing Quorum Issues
City Council failed to make quorum to begin the January 20 public budget delegations meeting on time, and struggled with quorum for the entire meeting. The January 21 CityHousing Hamilton Board meeting failed to make quorum. Only one councillor attended the February 18 Waste Sub-Committee meeting. On March 3, Council began late, and only with bare quorum to approve the 2023 CityHousing financial statements.
Picket Line at City Hall
The Hamilton Ontario Water Employees Association (HOWEA) is picketing at City Hall this morning. The 55 Hamilton Water employees have been on strike for six days and are seeking better pay.
The information picket is delaying vehicles entering the City Hall parking lots.
