Keanin Loomis says he is “supremely frustrated with what’s going on in the city” and will decide if he’ll run for Mayor within the next year.

Loomis is a federally appointed Director on the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority. Today, he attended the port’s annual general meeting where TPR asked him if he plans to run for mayor.

Running for Mayor “is not a decision that needs to be made right now,” Loomis said. He said he gets asked the question often, and it’s something he is thinking about.

He is “overwhelmingly happy” in his current job as the President and CEO of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction.

Loomis placed a close second in Hamilton’s 2022 municipal election, less than one percent (1663 votes) behind the winner, Andrea Horwath.

Since that time, Loomis has remained involved in the community.

He spoke on AM900 CHML a few times when requested to comment on this Council’s decisions. Each time, he expressed disagreement focused on policy and operations, avoiding character attacks.

Nominations for the 2026 election will open on May 1, 2026. Election day is October 26.

  1. Finally, a bit of good news. I truly hope that Mr Loomis runs in the next Mayoral election. It would be a relief to have an adult in the room.
