A Local Journalism Initiative story states, “Nobody who has been offered the job wants to be Niagara-on-the-Lake’s chief administrative officer.”
NOTL has been looking for a new CAO since January 2024, when Mayor Andrea Horwath hired Marnie Cluckie as Hamilton’s City Manager.
The report states that three different candidates declined job offers.
Beginning May 1, the Lord Mayor of Niagara-on-the-Lake will gain Strong Mayor powers.
This will change the CAO appointment from being a decision of the council to being a prerogative of the mayor.
