Former Haldimand Mayor Ken Hewitt officially remains a part-time Member of the Ontario Land Tribunal while he seeks direction from the Integrity Commissioner of Ontario regarding his candidacy for the Conservative Party of Canada in the riding of Hamilton Mountain.
In a statement to TPR, the OLT writes:
“As soon as the Tribunal was notified of Mr. Hewitt’s candidacy, the Chair promptly removed him from the adjudication schedule,” reads the statement the Tribunal asked to be attributed to a spokesperson. “In line with the Public Service of Ontario Act, s. 92, Mr. Hewitt is seeking direction from the Integrity Commissioner of Ontario.”
Full-time Members of provincial tribunals are not permitted to be candidates for a political party. They are permitted to vote, contribute money and be members of political parties. [S. 89 PSO Act]
Part-time Members may apply to the Integrity Commissioner of Ontario for permission to engage in political activity.
Hewitt informed the Tribunal of his nomination plans on March 27.
His absence from the Tribunal does not impact any hearings or scheduled dates.

We were waiting to see the Conservative platform and how they planned to pay for promises made to the public, Unfortunately, we have not seen that information and since I will be working at a polling station, I have to vote in the advance poll. That missing information was important to my decision. Julie Winter
