Only one of the three councillors on the City’s Waste Management Sub-Committee was present at Hamilton City Hall for the start of today’s meeting.

Ward 13 Councillor Alex Wilson was present. Absent were Ward 5 Clr Matt Francis and Ward 11 Clr Mark Tadeson.

This is the third no-quorum incident of 2025 for Hamilton City Council.

On January 20, only seven of the 16 council members showed up on time for public budget delegations. Municipalities must hold at least one public delegation opportunity before passing annual budgets.

The next day, January 21, Council’s CityHousing Hamilton Board meeting was cancelled due to a lack of quorum.

Last Tuesday, February 11, Council struggled with quorum when only 9 of 16 members attended a meeting.

Council Waives Procedural Bylaw to Meet after No Quorum Time Limit Violated

Hamilton’s procedural bylaw states a meeting must begin within 15 minutes of its scheduled start time.

Today’s meeting occurred “without sitting as a formal meeting,” stated Clr Alex Wilson.

Staff made presentations to Council and received ‘suggestions’ in place of formal decisions.
