The GPS units onboard on Hamilton’s public transit buses are functioning again, but are not reliable, according to multiple transit operators.

The units have been out of operation since the beginning of the City’s cybersecurity failure in February.

Operators say onboard computers are again informing them if they are operating on-time, late, or ahead of schedule.

This means the onboard computers are again processing GPS data.

It is not known if the data is being transmitted to transit control, or if transit control’s computers are operational.

The Hamilton Street Railway appears to have lost access to its @HSRNow X account due to the cybersecurity failure. The account has not been updated since February 23rd, not even reposting main @HSR updates.

The HSR, like all City of Hamilton departments, has not announced any timelines for resumption of online information services.

It is not known when the HSR will again report real-time bus locations.

Transit app, a third-party application, allows users to share bus locations while riding transit.
