Hamilton’s Committee of Adjustment will deliberate on Tuesday, July 23, on minor variance applications to permit a seven-storey residential building at 61-63 King Street West, near the Stoney Creek recreation centre.
The minor variances are to permit the seventh storey [zoning permits 22.0 metres, the building is proposed to be 23.25 metres] and setback variances to allow an urbanized building form.
The existing zoning is “C5a Zone – Mixed Use Medium Density – Pedestrian Focus.”
On the same Facebook ground that was the vocal point of opposition to the 5 and 13 Lake Avenue South affordable housing project, people are organizing in opposition to this new proposal.
City of Hamilton planning staff are recommending approval.
The hearing is scheduled for 1:20 p.m.

No building what so ever. ! Create a park there for children to play.
Are they kidding? That area is so congested with traffic right now and they are going to add construction and even more traffic? The building department needs to take a serious look at what and where they are approving building.
Underground parking and it will be walkable consumers for businesses
The downtown of Stoney Creek Village is slowly becoming a ghost town with stores closing and ” by appointment only” businesses. We need to bring shops and restaurants to the area so that people will follow.
If this what’s needed to bring some vibrancy, well do it, what’s the alternative?
As per a “park” for children? What children? Right on the main street of a village?
I do not live in stoney creek, but I oppose this project whole heartedly at 100% plus. The city of hamilton planning n zoning committees should approve n operate using their heart n soul (not favoring a builder or developer by permanently ruining my city of hamilton) focusing on beautifying the city, not crowding it with towns n apt bldgs thus ruining neighborhoods which these projects ultimately will lead to ghettos . Crowding Apt bldgs n miles of attached row/ townhouses ( along hwy 53 ….front entry 4 ft away from curb
yuck…
really? Who approved that project?
Every day folks would have done a better job!!
Did anyone at hamilton bldg dept ever drive along plains rd burlington…complete commercial spaces w apts above done with the heart, vision n devotion, to their craft versus pleasing a builder….burlington is so, so attractive…..
Contrary to what is going on with Hamilton.
I have lived here all my life, I’m 80 yrs old and no longer love my HAMILTON….it brings tears to my sore eyes thinking about it n how awful n uninviting my city has become.
I will stop here it is too emotional for me yo continue. Thank you
Yes.we need small houses and playground for children

So , a few years back you reduce the main drive to 1 lane, now you wanna start adding more ( plenty more ) units to an already congested roadway…what are the future plans for un congesting the roadway ?
