The owners of 45 Barlake Avenue will replace and upgrade hot water boilers in the building by September 6.
The City of Hamilton’s bylaw office told the City’s Property Standards Committee the building owner is replacing boilers in the building and the City agrees to an extension until September 6 for the work.
Residents have experienced intermittent issues with a lack of hot water in the seven-storey building.
The City of Hamilton requires landlords to maintain a minimum hot water temperature of 43 degrees celsius at all times.
On March 31, the City ordered Pat and Dia Ltd, the owners of the building, to fix hot water issues by May 23, 2023.
At Friday’s meeting, city officials state the owner is now replacing the system and have provided documentation stating the work will be completed this summer.
City officials told the committee the building is experiencing water capacity issues due to more residents per unit than in the past combined with people installing “unauthorized appliances” such as washers in their units.
