The City of Hamilton is decreasing the public notice period for Planning Committee hearings to 7 days from the present 17 days to comply with changes to the Planning Act implemented by the Ontario Progressive Conservatives Bill 108.

Beginning January 1, 2023, municipal councils will be required to make decisions on zoning bylaw and official plan amendment applications with shorter deadlines. They must refund application fees if decisions are not made within the new deadlines.

Zoning bylaws decisions must be made within 90 days, and official plan decisions within 120 days.

City Council will formally amend the City’s planning regulations during their upcoming August 3 Planning Committee meeting with ratification scheduled the August 12 Council meeting.
