As Hamiltonians marked Remembrance Day across the region yesterday, Hamiltonians deployed with Canadian Armed Forces marked the solumn occasion across the world.
One soldier marked the 11th hour with the President of Poland.
Second Lieutenant Jacek Wojcik of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry participated in the ceremony at the monument of Marshal Jozef Pilsudski in Kolobrzeg, Poland.
Among the dignitaries at the ceremony, which also marked the 96th anniversary of Poland’s independence, was Polish President Janusz Gromek.
2Lt Wojcik is deployed to Poland as part of Operation Reassurance, the CAF response to the security concerns of Eastern European members of NATO following Russia’s invasion of eastern Ukraine and Russian maneuvers close to these NATO countries.
When not in uniform, Wojcik is a Ph.D., P.Eng., Senior Principal Research Engineer at McMaster University’s Department of Engineering Physics.
