In 2023, I had coffee with a big city mayor who explained to me there are three municipal issues that people get very upset about: dog parks, bike lanes, and pickleball.
In North Saanich, a group of pickleball players had to drop a legal challenge after one of its leaders disrupted a recent city council meeting.
The rest of the story is familiar: Sound complaints, closure of the pickleball court, everyone being angry, and a municipal council trying to find a solution.
Luckily, here in Hamilton, the City built 12 pickleball courts at Confederation Park, wisely separating the loud sport from any nearby residential.
