A City of Hamilton map showing the location of 75 and 83 Frederick Avenue.

The City of Hamilton has listed a newly created lot at 79 Frederick Avenue for sale on the open market.

The 15.24-metre-wide parcel of vacant land between 75 and 83 Frederick Avenue was registered in 1906 as part of the road allowance and intended to become part of Edinburgh Avenue. That roadway ultimately terminated one block east, at Province Street North.

On May 28, the Hamilton City Council enacted a Bylaw closing the road allowance. This Bylaw created the vacant lot, making it available for residential development.

The original plan was to use the property for an affordable housing project.

The City’s sale listing makes no reference to affordability, unlike other City land sales.

Also listed for sale this week is a parcel of land at 64 East 31st Street. The City owns the land as part of the entrance to the Sherman Cut mountain access. The portion of land being sold is not required for sightlines approaching the access.
